The term “Reiki” is the Japanese word for “Universal Life Force Energy” - the energy that is present in each of us. Reiki in its current form was developed in 1922 by a Japanese Buddhist called Mikao Usui. While there are many types and methods of energy healing, Reiki is a clear and simple place to begin working with our own innate ability to encourage healing. Like acupuncture or acupressure, Reiki improves the flow of energy around the body enabling relaxation, and the more relaxed we are, the better equipped our bodies are to heal themselves. Regular Reiki treatments can help reduce pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness. Reiki supports the body’s natural healing abilities and can be used to enhance other treatment modalities and medications.
Reiki level 1 offers a full overview of Reiki, a description of how it works, and suggestions on how to develop a daily personal practice that will encourage self-healing. You don’t have to have a desire to become a Reiki Master in order to benefit from Level 1. This practice can be beneficial to learn just for yourself, especially if you are healing from an injury, coping with a chronic illness, recovering from addiction, struggling with insomnia, working through trauma, or simply looking for effective ways to cope with the challenges of everyday life. While you can continue with your training and learn to offer healings to others, it’s enough to learn to use Reiki to bring healing to your own body, mind, and spirit.
The ability to use energy to encourage relaxation in ourselves and others is a gift we all have, a gift that can be expanded and deepened. You were born with everything you need to use this modality; all we do in the training is help you recognize and learn to use your gifts. Reiki skills deepen over time and with daily practice. The more we do it, the better we become at it. Our training will help you learn to work with this energy and offer ways to establish a daily self-care routine and expand your abilities.
In addition, we’re creating a community at Be Well Studios to support our individual practices. Those who complete Level 1 certification will be invited to join our monthly Reiki Share at which you’ll practice receiving and sharing Reiki in a supportive group setting. Master Teacher Jackie Drake leads our Reiki Share and is available to offer guidance and answer questions during the group practice and throughout your Reiki studies.
