Yoga Basics: An Introductory Workshop
Our Yoga Basics workshop is our way of welcoming brand-new yogis into the practice and into the Be Well Studios community. Together we will break down fundamental yoga postures and basic flow, terminology, and general class structure. Students who have never practiced yoga before, or who consider themselves beginners, will find this 60-minute workshop supportive in starting your yoga journey. This workshop meets monthly on the first Saturday at 10:30 am. No charge.
Recovery Yoga (starting November 17)
A regular yoga practice brings ease to the body-mind system and can be a key ingredient on the path of recovery from addiction. The physical practice of yoga, along with breath practices, serves to detoxify the body and to calm the mind. This class aims to unite those treading a path of recovery, in any form. All yogis are welcome (no experience necessary) $10 suggested donation. Instructor: Susan Corak
Level 1-2 Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa is a dynamic style of Hatha yoga which joins physical postures, or asanas, with inhales and exhales, creating a steady internal rhythm for the practice. This practice is designed to cultivate heat in the body with sun salutations, standing and seated postures, and a strong focus on the power of breath awareness. Flow yoga classes tend to be more vigorous and aerobic. This practice offers advanced postures to those who are interested and ready for them but supports the beginner yogi as well. A gentle yoga practice of mindful movement, attention to breath and self awareness. Leave with a sense of calm BLISS. Instructor: Susan Corak (all levels welcome).
Healing Through Movement: Chair Yoga
This gentle yoga class is designed to meet the needs of those experiencing limited range of motion due to injury or aging. Using the breath and gentle movement we will incorporate poses that increase core strength and improve balance and flexibility. All poses are practiced either sitting in a chair or using a chair for balance while standing. Instructor: Susan Corak (all levels welcome).
An uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices, Kundalini Yoga incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantras, building physical vitality and increasing consciousness. Instructor: Prem Baldevi (all levels welcome).
A gentle to moderate level yoga class which blends traditional yoga postures, fitness yoga, aerobics, stretching, movement, and meditation for a well-rounded way to become stronger, more flexible, and release stress. Instructor: Ruby Carrigan (Levels 1-2).
Energize the body and mind while greeting the sun and the opportunities of a new day. Beginning with pranayama (breath work), you will be guided through mindful stretching, sun salutation and warrior flows, core work, and meditation. The body will be invigorated and the mind quieted by this moderately paced, Vinyasa style class, allowing you to meet the day’s challenges with peace and grace. Suitable for all levels, however some yoga experience is recommended. The Monday morning class will study Warrior Goddess Training beginning October 14. Instructor: Susan Corak.
Yin Yoga invites you to slow down and create space for stillness while nourishing joints, ligaments, tendons and facia. Yin is yoga at its coolest, deepest, quietest, stillest moments. Poses are held for two to five minutes allowing lints and facia to release. Yin yoga complements your Vinyasa practice and will open and release areas in need of more stretching. Yogis of all levels are welcome. Instructor: Caitlin Ryan (all levels welcome).
Yoga for Men
This class is designed with our male students in mind and provides a well-rounded yoga practice to build strength, improve flexibility, and reduce stress. As a cross-training method, yoga can help athletes develop better breathing techniques while improving balance, flexibility, core strength, and endurance. Instructor: Steve Weaver (all levels welcome).
Beginning Hatha Yoga
A yoga class for those newer to yoga or those wanting a basic yoga class. This class introduces foundational yoga postures, teaches you how to breath and helps you feel more comfortable in the yoga practice. Although this class moves at a slower pace than the other classes, expect to be challenged both mentally and physically. Instructor: Caitlin Ryan (all levels welcome).
All-levels Vinyasa Flow
This class is a flowing style, linking your breath to your movement. There are many options given to relax or advance your practice in each class. Everyone is encouraged to do their yoga practice at whatever level that may be at each moment, with no judgment to one's self or others. This is done by tuning inward and listening to your own body and what you truly need. Instructors: Gena Heminover, Tuesdays at 9 am; Ruby Carrigan, Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. (all levels welcome).
Yoga Core (for the Young at Heart)
A kinder, gentler version our our Yoga Core class. We will explore postures that focus on the primary muscles that stabilize the "core" of the body, and that strengthen and stretch the abdomen, back, buttocks, hamstrings, and hip flexors. Build muscular and emotional energy and balance tension in the areas of the hips and lower back. Instructor: Susan Corak (all levels welcome).
Series Classes (Registration Required)
Achieve a higher level of awareness of your body’s energy system through a combination of pranayama, asanas, mudras and meditation. For those who enjoy a flowing yoga class and have some yoga experience with sun salutations, standing poses, forward bends, twist, backbends and inversions. Extended posture sequences offer advanced practice in coordinating strength, flexibility and balance. Reiki and Restorative
An extremely gentle class to clear the mind and relax the body, this practice combines restorative yoga and the ancient Japanese healing art of Reiki. Using props to support the body in each pose, restorative yoga gently stretches and deeply relaxes while Reiki activates the natural healing processes of the body and restores physical and emotional well-being. This class is appropriate for all levels and offers a perfect balance to a more active practice. Instructor: Susan Corak (all levels welcome). $15. Registration required. Yoga and Journaling
Combine mindful movement with periods of stream-of-consciousness journaling to self-reflect and gain new clarity. You will be guided you through a gentle sequence as well as some thoughtful journal prompts to gain insights into your inner experience. Journal entries are just for you and will not be shared with the group. Yogis of all levels are welcome. Five-week series (November 9 to December 14. Class will not meet on Saturday, November 16) is $50. Registration is Required.
Recovery Dharma Portage
Refuge Recovery is a mindfulness-based recovery community that practices and utilizes Buddhist philosophy as the foundation of recovery. Sangha-style meetings begin with guided meditation and provide a safe space for optional dharma sharing. Donations, if able.
Practice sitting, walking and guided meditation in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hahn as well as discussing the joys and challenges of practicing mindfulness. All levels are welcome and instruction is provided for beginners. Donations, if able.
